Frequently Asked Questions
What is an accommodation?
An accommodation is simply a change to a job, work environment, or work practice that allows a candidate or associate with a disability to go through the hiring process and to perform their job duties.
How do I request an accommodation?
Contact the Applicant-Candidate Accommodation Team (ACAT) at 888-435-9287, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Pacific Time. If you have questions or would like more information, you can contact us through our contact page.
When should I request an accommodation?
You can request an accommodation as soon as you apply. That way our team can start working on processing your request.
Are there specific times during the hiring process where accommodation is recommended?
You can initially request an accommodation when you apply. Once you pass the assessment, you can then request accommodation for Day 1.
What kind of accommodations does Amazon provide applicants?
Specific accommodation types can vary by role and needs. Examples include: Interpreting Services, onsite coach and service animals, Assistive Technology such as Magnifiers, Screen Readers, Refreshable Braille Display, and Speech to Text Software, ergonomic equipment, alternative headsets, and onsite mobility needs including wheelchair, walker, and scooter use.
I would like to request a non-medical accommodation for school, religion, childcare, shift/schedule, transportation. How do I do that?
In these cases, you should speak with your manager or HR once you are hired.
Will asking for an accommodation keep me from getting a job?
Absolutely not! Amazon will consider your qualifications and ability to perform the job with the necessary and reasonable accommodation.
What type of work is offered?
You can choose from a variety of roles within the warehouse, customer service, physical stores, and other locations. Different roles have different requirements such as lifting or sitting for long amounts of time, so it’s important to read the job descriptions and find which position works best for you. You can learn more about Amazon job opportunities by going to our Jobs Overview page.
Why should I self-disclose having a disability on my application if my manager or ACAT cannot see this information?
By having a better idea of the populations we hire, we can better serve our associates through benefits and programs. The self-disclosure is separate to opening an accommodation request. The hiring manager will not have access to your disclosure.
If I disclose having a disability in my application, will that start the accommodation process?
The accommodation process does not start until you make a specific request. If you self-disclose a disability on your application, this information is kept anonymous. ACAT and your hiring manager do not have access to this information, so you will need to request an accommodation by contacting ACAT.
What is the process for requesting an accommodation once I am employed by Amazon?
If you haven’t started Day 1 at Amazon, ACAT will manage your request. Once you are an active employee, this will be processed through a separate team of accommodation consultants and you will need to request your accommodation through MyHR.
